Fire door closers for high rise buildings

Best concealed door closer for fire doors

Samuel Heath has been manufacturing and supplying concealed door closers for fire doors for over 60 years. Our concealed door closers are used across the world to keep people and buildings safe in the event of a fire.

We are aware that due to the global reputation of a products within the industry, many attempts are made to copy our concealed door closer designs, but the quality, intricate detail and safety engineering are never matched.

Benefits of concealed door closers

A concealed door closer is installed into the door and door frame. It automatically closes the door when it is not being used.

There are several benefits of concealed door closers, particularly when compared to traditional overhead arm door closers:

  • Overhead door closers present a ligature risk, which is a significant concern for facilities where vulnerable people live or regularly visit
  • Overhead door closers can also be easily vandalised by residents who don’t want their door to automatically shut, or who simply want to cause damage. Once a door closer is vandalised, the whole fire door often needs to be replaced because its safety mechanism has been compromised. This is costly, inconvenient and unsafe
  • Concealed fire door closers are more hygienic because they don’t offer a horizontal surface for dust and debris to accumulate
  • Overhead fire door closers are associated with institutional living. Concealed fire door closers are invisible when the door is closed so they provide enhanced aesthetics, more homely interiors and therefore calmer environments for residents.

Powermatic R100

The Samuel Heath Powermatic R100 is the world-renowned advanced, controlled door closer. It is the only Certifire approved jamb-mounted concealed door closer, which means that, unlike its competitors, the R108 has been independently verified by a global regulatory third party as a door closer that meets the certification’s robust fire safety criteria. The Powermatic R100 is CE and UKCA marked, and tested to BS EN 1154: 1997 power size 3. It is BS EN 1634-1 and BS 476 approved for use on one hour and half-hour fire doors.

Importantly for specifiers, the Powermatic R100 contributes to the achievement of the Building Regulations’ Approved Document M in England and Wales.

Powermatic R108

The Powermatic Axis R108 concealed door closer from Samuel Heath was designed for the Simonswerk’s Tectus concealed hinge system. It works with the hinge’s central pivot axis and incorporates post-installation height adjustment to offer high performance fire and accessibility safety.

Like the R100, the R108 is CE and UKCA marked. It has been tested to BS EN 1634-1 for FD60 and FD30 timber doors.
