Family Home, Cambridgeshire
The case for individuality
Designing a residential property at scale
For a 650m² family home in Cambridgeshire, interior design studio Cranberryhome faced a challenge familiar to designers working on substantial residential projects: how to create consistency and quality across the home without the spaces feeling repetitive.
Involved from an early stage alongside the architects, Cranberryhome spent three months refining the interior layouts before developing the wider design scheme with a focus on material quality and practical family life.
Core test items – remove once reviewed

“When you are working on a home of this scale, it is important that the interior feels connected, but not formulaic. We wanted every room to have its own character and purpose, while still feeling part of the same home.” Hugo Fleming, Design Director

Seven bathrooms, seven individual schemes
With every bedroom benefiting from its own en-suite, the home includes seven bathroom spaces including a separate WC. Rather than applying one repeated design language throughout, Cranberryhome deliberately treated each bathroom as an individual scheme.
Different materials, textures and finishes give each space its own identity and allow it to respond to the bedroom or area it serves. Tile layouts were carefully planned in advance, with close consideration given to junctions, mitres and laying patterns to ensure every surface was installed precisely on site.
“We made a conscious decision not to repeat the same bathroom throughout the house. Each one has its own mood and material palette, which makes the experience of moving through the home much more personal and interesting.” Hugo Fleming, Design Director

A brassware specification with breadth
The decision to create seven distinct bathroom schemes meant the brassware needed to offer both visual flexibility and a consistent level of quality. Samuel Heath was specified across the bathrooms, with its range of finishes allowing Cranberryhome to complement the different material combinations while maintaining the same standard of detailing throughout.
For the studio, Samuel Heath was also a natural fit with the wider specification approach. Cranberryhome prefers to source from British brands and manufacturers wherever possible, and the project made use of local materials where appropriate. Durability was equally important: products needed to be robust enough for everyday use over many years.
“Samuel Heath was a brand we already knew and trusted. The breadth of finishes allowed us to respond to each individual bathroom design, while the quality and durability gave us confidence that the products would perform beautifully in a busy family home.” Hugo Fleming, Design Director

Detail at every scale
The completed home reflects the time invested in its design: two years of development followed by a year-long fit-out. The interiors demonstrate an approach in which scale never comes at the expense of precision.
For Cranberryhome, the bathrooms are a clear example of this philosophy. Each has its own character, yet all are united by the same commitment to local materials and longevity.
